Final Summary & Reflection
Looking back over the past 8 weeks, I am proud of my commitment to completing this project despite stressors, illness, and an increased workload that affected me along the way. Committing to a weekly walk may not appear to be much, but as someone who has very little time in her week and finds walks to be a waste of time, the discipline it took for me to continue to go out, in between 8-hour work shifts and before days packed full of studying, was a lot. Reflecting on the places I ventured, it feels that my 7 walks (one of which was not documented) were not many, but some of my favourite memories from this term have been formed because of these adventures. I learned about local trails, parks and neighbourhoods I had never noticed before, and even got to reconnect with my family while being outdoors during the reading break.
If I could change anything about this project, I would extend its length! Going on walks for 7-8 weeks was great, but it would not have been as impactful if this had been a year-long commitment. I think with the time I had, and the amount of work I have on my plate, I exceeded my expectations in my execution and was able to make meaningful routines in my life, while also educating myself and others on outdoor education ideas and implementation in the classroom. If this class had been in-person, I feel that perhaps my overall assignment would end with a large art, collage piece of all the places I ventured and how I felt at each step of the way. However, having this be an online, technology class, I was able to do so in a more efficient manner using this blog space
I have genuinely looked forward to sharing my learnings and my experiences on this platform for the last 8 weeks. This blog page has acted as my digital journal and a way to share my ideas freely with no worry about how professional, well-written, or grammatically correct each sentence is along the way. It has been a pleasure to share my findings, and I hope this encourages others to step outside and take a walk!
